Northeast Florida

Map of Florida

Northeast Florida is a unique part of the Sunshine State. It’s home to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the U.S., as well as Jacksonville, the largest city in the U.S. in terms of square miles. Jacksonville is a thriving community with beautiful beaches, a warm climate and the many cultural, sporting, medical and business options of any big city.

Beyond Jacksonville are many smaller cities and towns that also offer the very best of Florida living. From the lush seagrass strands of Amelia Island to historic St. Augustine, the area boasts a wealth of sporting and cultural activities. The several university and college campuses host concerts, lectures and sporting events. The Past lives in the National Parks and Sites as well as in State Parks. You can walk through the complex history of French, Spanish and English occupations as you enjoy dramatic re-enactments in parks from the Kingsley Plantation to Fort Mose. Just in St. Augustine alone you will discover Castillio de San Marcos National Park located within the well preserved historic district, the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum and even the popular and educational Alligator Farm.

Much closer to Penney is the Clay County Fairgrounds right down the road. The fairground plays host to special events throughout the year. The annual county fair is the largest of these events and each year Penney residents come home with awards for their entries in various competitive categories. Other events include the Strawberry Festival, Watermelon Festival, Vintage Days Weekend, the Scottish Highland Games, Dressage Horse Shows, the circus, horse clinics, rodeos, and auctions.

Additionally, Northeast Florida is home to many top-rated healthcare facilities including Mayo Clinic, Nemours Children’s Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital and the University of Florida Health system. Local hospitals such as Baptist, St. Vincent’s and Orange Park medical centers are highly regarded for their quality care.
